This rectangular box is black on the top and sides with coral, orange, and red large-petaled flowers painted all over. The flowers are trailed by light green vines and large green leaves. The words “Apollo Chocolates” are printed in gold on the top left corner of the lid and “One Pound Net Weight” in gold on the bottom right of the lid. A label has been affixed to the top of the lid which reads: “Withdrawn from writing desk and inlaid stand, February 25, 1926”. Some wear is evident on the corners of the box.

Commentary
This box once held one pound of assorted chocolates made by the confections company, Apollo Chocolates, which was active in Boston in the early 20th century. The box was found inside Isabella Stewart Gardner's writing desk in the Macknight Room in 1926, containing several small objects collected by her.
