Provenance
Painted for the Tavern Club (founded 1884), Boston about 1910, where it remained until the outbreak of the First World War, when Gaugengigl resigned from the club.
Collection of Gaugengigl, about 1914-1920.
Purchased by Isabella Stewart Gardner from the artist for $2,000 on 12 February 1920.
Commentary
