This vintage photo is of the lightly-colored stone reredos at the Church of the Advent, Boston. The photo is a vertical rectangle and is set on a larger card background with a surrounding border.  The photo focuses on the front of the church around the altar, and the stone altar that rises high up in the center in gothic carved layers and spires.  The altar’s base is a table covered with a lightly colored fabric, with six decorative candleholders and candles, and flowers with greenery, along the back.  The next layer is a series of five shallow carved niches depicting religious figures, with a larger central figure of Christ.  Above the niches are shallow shelves, also with candles and flowers with greenery.  Gothic cathedral-like spires and carvings, some looking like cathedral windows and some figures, rise up in narrowing layers towards the very high ceiling, with a larger carved figure on each side closer to the ceiling.  The semi-circular, perhaps half octagonal, chancel walls are horizontal brick with some thin horizontal layers of light stone.  Three small stained glass windows are high above behind and on each side, and one lower stained glass window is to our right.  The altar is on a platform at the top of five stairs, with tall floor candelabra and additional plants on each side.  The chancel area around the altar has an inlaid stone or wood floor, and there are pieces of furniture in each lower corner of the photo.  The photo’s lower border shows a small portion of a rug leading to an opening in the altar railing and up two stairs into to the chancel area.
