This set of four vertical graphite sketches on brown-toned paper shows dancers in various poses. All of the sketches are drawn with twisting lines, which convey movement. Each of the four dancers are depicted with expressive faces, but sparingly rendered bodies and garments. In the first sketch, the dancer bends at the waist, turns to our right, and stretches her right arm above her head and left arm out to the side. In the second sketch, the dancer stands upright and faces us, with her right arm stretched upward and left arm outward. In the third sketch, the dancer faces us, but turns her head to our left. She tucks her arms close to her body and reaches them down the front of her torso. In the fourth sketch, the dancer faces to our right, but turns her head to look toward us, over her right shoulder and outstretched right arm.
