Octagonal Table (Tavolo ottagonale), late 19th century

This late 19th century Italian octagonal table is solidly built of walnut and poplar woods and has a thick, smooth top. A wide box apron extends below the tabletop, the bottom edge of which has several grooved rows. The top portion of each of the four sturdy legs is turned and has a square block segment. Attached to these blocks are X-stretchers that have an urn shaped knob where they intersect. The legs stand on squat knob-like feet. The table shows signs of being well worn.
