In this half-length portrait the man looks directly at the viewer. He has close cropped hair, a mustache, and a serious expression. The right side of his face is in shadow. He wears a formal suit and vest, although his shirt color is unbuttoned. His left arm rests in his lap, and his right hand is on his right knee. There is a signature in the lower margin on the viewer’s right.
