This vertical ink and pigment painting depicts the narrative of the martyrdom of the Christian Saint Lawrence, in a three-part scene. In the bottom section, three light-skinned men stoke a bright red fire. The figure to the left wears a white tunic and adds fuel to the fire with a pitchfork. To the right, a man in a light red tunic holds a pitchfork, and a seated man in a dark tunic uses a bellows to fuel the fire.   The background of this section is painted a deep blue.  In the center section, the haloed, light-skinned figure of Saint Lawrence is lying naked on a blue, basket-like stretcher with triple rows of rope holding the body at the ankles, thighs, and upper chest.  In the upper section, three figures stand against an arched background. Two tall, narrow, blue candlesticks are placed at the sides of the center arch. The medium-dark skinned figure to our right wears a red gown with a white flat scalloped collar, a blue robe, and a black crownlike hat. He appears to be speaking, and his hands are held out in front of him. The medium-light skinned figure in the center appears to be listening. He wears a blue and red robe with a large, flat white collar and a flat type of hat. The third figure is to our left and behind the middle figure. He wears a white robe and what appears to be a white bishop’s hat.  On our left side is a white column separated in the middle by large blue architectural features and four green and blue balls. The far left and very bottom of the painting are gilded.
