This oil painting is a bust-length portrait of a young woman, Battista Sforza, shown in profile to the right.  Her very light unblemished skin stands out against a bright green background. Her hairline is fashionably high; eyebrows plucked to a narrow arch; heavy-lidded only partially open; nose is long and straight; unsmiling, shut lips resolute; and incipient double chin visible. Her light auburn hair is parted in the center of her head, and is coiled with a white strip of fabric at the side of her head. At the center of this coil is a gold, jewel-studded ornament. A white ribbon rises from her coiled hair to the top of her head with a circular gold and pearl ornament perched on top. Battista wears an elaborate necklace - a bejeweled, pearl-lined choker from which hangs a looser string of pearls and a gold and red pendant. Her high scooped-neck black brocade dress covers her front, back and top of her shoulders making way for patterned rust-colored sleeves which echo  the color of her hair.
