Provenance
Purchased by Isabella Stewart Gardner from the antique dealer A. Clerle, Venice (with a companion carving of the Nativity, museum no. S21e11) for about 80 lire each on 27 September 1897.
Commentary
Isabella Stewart Gardner kept meticulous records of many of her acquisitions. In keeping with this legacy, object information is continually being reviewed, updated, and enriched in order to give greater access to the collection.
