Purchased by Isabella Stewart Gardner (with a companion screen, museum no. P14e3.2) from the Matsuki sale at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (with several other art objects) for a total of $2,591.50 on 20 February 1902, lot 353.
Commentary
Isabella Stewart Gardner kept meticulous records of many of her acquisitions. In keeping with this legacy, object information is continually being reviewed, updated, and enriched in order to give greater access to the collection.
