This marble relief sculpture has an overall shape of a square topped with a triangle. The border is a continuous double course of rectangular, brick-shaped marble blocks alternating with voids. The central design is a shield with two human arms crossing: one arm is bare and the other is covered with a loose fitting sleeve. The bare arm extends upward and to the right. It is positioned in front of a simple cross found in the center of the shield. The sleeved arm extends upward and to the left. It crosses behind the cross symbol. The arms arise from opposite sides of a garland of realistically carved flowers that form a U around the lower edge of the shield. The open palms of both arms display a small wound in the center. There are triangular shaped bouquets of lilies and leaves in the two lower corners, just outside of the shield but inside the border. Above the shield, filling the upper central triangle is the torso of a winged angel. The angel's hands grip the upper concave curve of the shield. The angel is facing the viewer and wearing a loose fitting belted robe.
