Purchased by Isabella Stewart Gardner in London for £750 around 15 October 1901, through the American art historian Bernard Berenson (1865-1959), via Miss Toplady, a curiosity shop founded by art critic Mary Berenson (1864-1945) and her brother, author Logan Pearsall Smith (1865-1946), London. (as the work of the Florentine painter Agnolo Gaddi, active 1369-1396)
Commentary
Isabella Stewart Gardner kept meticulous records of many of her acquisitions. In keeping with this legacy, object information is continually being reviewed, updated, and enriched in order to give greater access to the collection.
