This square pastel drawing represents a scene of a lagoon in Venice. It has a gilded frame.  The infinite variations of the palest  blues, grays, and whites, with dashes of orange imparts a feeling of a place at calm.  Along the entire right edge of the scene- using only a narrow vertical strip of gray and chalked- white with sections of muted orange is a sun bleached structure. The lagoon holds various boats. On our right is the stern of a dark blue fishing boat at anchor, two white and gray gondolas are in the center.  The one nearest to us has a figure standing and holding a long pole that is half submerged in the lagoon.  The second gondola, further away, appears empty. To our left, two sailboats with fully opened muted orange sails, seem to sit unmoving in the flat calm lagoon.   The top most horizontal portion of this drawing holds multi-shaped buildings: on our right is a church with a tall steeple, center there are two distant towers behind a few lower structures, and to our furthest left is a building with a distinctive dome shape.  They all are all below a strip of a flat paper-colored and baby blue sky. The artist’s signature is present in the lower left corner.
