This vertical oil painting depicts a stone sculpted bust of Akhenaten, an ancient Egyptian pharaoh. Shown in profile to the viewer’s right,  we see the top of his torso, forward jutting neck, face, left ear, and very high, bulbous headpiece, the statue supported from behind by a vertically rectangular piece of stone. The entire bust is off-white, except for a prominent dark crack painted horizontally through the neck and back supporting stone, around which dense smudges of orange and red discolorations extend upward to the ear. Akhenaten’s neck and chin are arched forward, his profile characterized by a prominent chin; closed lips; a nose in which the tip seems to have been broken off; and a forward looking eye arched by a heavy eyebrow.  The very tall headpiece fits low and closely on his forehead and just above his ear, snuggly covering his hair all around.  At the bottom of the painting the background is white and gray, becoming muted brown, gray, white and yellow tones at the sides of the statue.
