This horizontal watercolor depicts Venice’s Grand Canal. The water of the canal is a bright blue, and two dark gondolas float in the foreground, moored to the dock on the left hand side of the painting. Along the two banks of the canal, buildings are visible. To the left is a long row of shorter buildings, rendered in pinks and creams. To the right are larger buildings. One is beige with a large gold dome and there is a tall brown, white, and black belltower in the distance. The sky, which starts halfway up the painting, is a similar shade of blue to the Grand Canal. In the bottom right corner, the artist has dated the work: Venice, Jan 29 1914
