The woman is shown in three-quarters view with her right arm bent at the elbow and crossing over a predominantly red skirt which covers her lap, her right hand hanging over the edge of the side of her legs, the picture terminating just above her middle knuckles. She has black hair and medium-dark skin.  Her right arm is bent upward at the elbow with the fingers of her right hand partially covering her lips and resting on her chin, her thumb supporting her mandible from below as she stares contemplatively into space.  A mostly black Spanish shawl with coral flowers and a few green accents covers her back and sides, falling loosely over her shoulders and upper arms and coming together in a v-shape at her neck. A high, broad, burgundy-colored Spanish comb arises from the back of her hair, a single yellow flower centered on her head in front of the comb. The sides of her black hair are pulled back, baring her earlobes, and join with the rest of her hair and falling freely to cover her neck. A spit-curl graces her forehead and a second one her left cheekbone. Her  facial features are fine, with dark eyebrows, lashes and eyeshadow. Her thin lips are closed and betray no particular emotion. She sits on a rose-colored chair, only a sliver of which is visible, against a yellow-green background which becomes progressively  blue-green lower in the painting.
