This vertical watercolor painting shows a view of the artist’s childhood home in southern France. A pathway, starting at the front to your right, invites the viewer into the garden surrounding the home. The pathway is painted in shades of green, with a velvety texture. On the left are plants and flowers that appear to be purple irises. On the right are flowers that may be white irises. At the center of the painting, full trees surround a garden with a singular tall stone sculpture. The tree to the left reaches high, and is almost bare, with limbs and branches visible. Moving from the left to right are bushes and trees in shades of yellow, orange, and green, with splashes of blue. In the background is a view of the top part of the house. The walls appear to be light-colored stucco with a blue tiled roof. In the lower corner to your right is the inscription, in pencil, With Sylvia’s love, 1923.
