This horizontal tempera painting shows three scenes in a single framed panel. The first scene, to your far left, shows the figure of St. Jerome at the opening of a cave which reaches up to the top of the canvas. St. Jerome kneels in front of a simple stone altar with a wooden cross on it. Next to the cross is an area where the paint has been scratched off the panel. St. Jerome is barefoot and wearing a tattered white robe. His right hand is held over his heart, and in his left hand, he holds what appears to be rosary beads. At the top left corner of the panel is a red barnlike structure with an open door. The second scene, in the center of the panel, shows Mary Magdalene floating with an angel next to each shoulder. This figure of Mary has golden hair and wears a full yellow gown. Her feet appear to be bare. Mary clasps her hands at her chest and looks over to your left. There is an angel to either side of her. The area of the panel below the figure of Mary is unfinished or the paint has been scratched off. The third scene, on the right, shows Saint Francis on his knees, with his arms raised up and his head and body leaning back. Saint Francis is wearing a muted greyish robe tied at the waist with a white rope. A similarly dressed small figure sits behind him, with head titled back and one hand shielding his eyes. In the top corner to the right are stone buildings and trees along the ridge of a mountain. An angel wearing a red gown flies with arms outstretched surrounded by golden rays.
