This vertical oil painting highlights the stained glass in the north transept of a church. Shades of blue, purple, grey, and green dominate the canvas. On the wall directly in front of us up high, is a large round stained-glass window. The sections of the center circle are light blue; the sections in the outer circles are deeper blues with random bits of other color. Just below is a row of stained-glass figures, which appear to be set into the wall. At floor level is what looks like a doorway. In the foreground, on the floor, are two platforms resembling four-poster beds. On the platforms are carved effigies. To our left, a wall projects out towards us and then turns left, forming a corner. Stained glass windows appear on the upper part of both walls. Below the stained-glass windows, the walls have curved archways. The painting is signed “Helleu” in the lower right. Helleu’s short, thick brushstrokes, use of color, and emphasis on light reflect the influence of the Impressionists on his painting.
