Josh Knowles is a talented violinist, singer/songwriter, and music educator based in Boston. Educated at Berklee College of Music, he has recently performed in an eclectic array of genres and groups. His indie/rock band, Nemes, was recently nominated for the Boston Music Award for Best Live Act, and won the New England Music Award for Best in State.
Knowles’s eclectic repertoire extends across an array of genres including indie/rock, classic rock, pop and r&b. He has performed at many notable venues including the Boston Opera House and Lincoln Center in New York with the Boston Ballet. Knowles shares his passion for music by teaching violin and composing for the inner-city youth orchestra, Revolution of Hope. He also teaches violin, voice, and piano lessons at the Boston School of Music Arts in Dorchester.

During his time as a Luminary at the Gardner, Knowles has been invited to perform his ethereal compositions on electric violin, looper, and piano in both Calderwood Hall and the Courtyard during numerous Free Days, Vacation Weeks, and Third Thursdays. Knowles’s will celebrate the release of his first solo album, Spin Without a Sound, during a performance at the Gardner on February 19, 2018 as part of our February School Vacation Week Kickoff.
