On view: February - March
Vibrant orchids native to Southeast Asia and Africa define this late winter display. In the heart of the Courtyard, the Medusa mosaic is surrounded by tall, majestic calla lilies, set off by a variety of orchids, including elegant Cymbidium (first praised in writing by Confuscius); Ansellia, or leopard orchids, sporting clusters of yellow flowers with brown spots; and Dendrobium, or pink rock orchids, delicate in appearance only, well-adapted to survive far from their natural environment. Perfuming and decorating the Courtyard from February to March, Orchids is embellished with glossy forest lilies, gentle flowering maples, and azaleas, a plant grown by Isabella herself at her home in Brookline.
Please note that the Courtyard displays are part of a living collection and as such the actual flowers may be different than what is described on our website.
