Join us on the first Thursday of every month for a dynamic evening of creativity and community. Museum admission is free from 3 pm through 9 pm and programs kick off at 5 pm. Explore the magic of the Museum’s gardens and galleries at night and stop by Café G for dinner and drinks.
Through a night of curated sounds, performances, and talks we are excited to collaborate with SubDrift Boston for a night in honor of South Asian Futurisms. Honoring South Asian Futurisms and in connection to Raqib Shaw, SubDrift Boston will host a night inviting artists and creatives to radically show up for themselves and their communities by sharing their many voices, stories, art, and perspectives through performance & music. Come celebrate this special night with music in the Courtyard, a curated open mic in the Living Room, art-making activities led by visiting Polly Thayer Starr Visiting Artist, Szu-Chieh Yun and talks in connection to our special exhibition in Hosetter Gallery.

SubDrift Boston Presents The Shadow Notes| 5:00 - 5:45 PM & 7:15 - 8:00 PM in the Courtyard
This is your invitation to an evening of killer grooves and ancient hooks as the Shadow Notes and Friends ascend the stage. With the enchanted garden as their muse, Michael Dwan Singh and Levi Ali will take us on a silk road journey from the sweaty dance halls of Trinidad all the way to the Sufi Shrines of Punjab—with stops along the way. The haunting echoes of Singh’s sarangi hang in the air while Ali’s ferocious drumming colors the night. Their signature sound—accentuated by tabla, tassa, and blazing synthesizers—is as unique and futuristic as it is familiar—a promise for an evening that will not disappoint. Joining them will be the talented singer-composer Agney Mulay, techno producer Sunshine Esteves, Sonny Lalchandani on sarod, Siri Neerchal on vocals, Meghan Wyatt on violin, Tamanna Urmi on pipes and Khushboo Kadam performing kathak.
Spoken Word Performances - SubDrift Boston | 6:00 - 7:00 PM in the Living Room
SubDrift invites you to The Living Room for a magical hour with three of Boston’s most effervescent creators!
Neha Rayamajhi is an incredible storyteller and poet who invokes a homeland—real and imagined. Between heart and heartbreak, her words are a kaleidoscope for listeners to view themselves and the world around them. Evocative, challenging, enlightened—her poems have soared from stages across the US to journals and magazines in Nepal.
Payal Kumar: A gifted visual and spoken word artist, Payal’s masterful work draws from the Madhubani painting of their ancestors. Their pieces present a futurist artform that heralds the joy and courage of unheard voices. Fresh from an installation at the Pao Arts Center, Payal will present a poetic excursion through the dark recesses of the heart.
Anju Madhok (they/she) is a singer, songwriter, producer, and performer shaped by the people and places in Minnesota and Massachusetts. Their music conjures imaginary lovers, scents of citrus, and visions of hairy brown skin under the sun.
Anju’s work has been highlighted by NPR’s All Songs Considered, Rolling Stone India, and Minnesota Public Radio’s The Current. They were commissioned by South Asian American Digital Archive to create original work for a sound tour of Philadelphia.
Anju is currently teaching piano, violin, and guitar to young musicians and working on their debut full-length album. You can connect and follow their journey @anjutunes on social media and www.anjutunes.com.
SubDrift Presents: Gallery Talk with Sumaya Teli in Hostetter Gallery - SubDrift Boston | 5:45 - 6:15 PM & 7:15 - 7:45 PM
Join British-Kashmiri multidisciplinary artist Sumaya Teli in conversation with the works of Raqib Shaw. She is the founder of a popular lifestyle blog called mamanushka.com that is rooted in her layered experiences of being a Muslim woman and mother. Through her storytelling and other powerful projects (including a viral photo-series on reclaiming the pheran amidst the ongoing military occupation of Kashmir), Teli weaves together a creative and hopeful resistance in her practice. She brings together her worlds as a writer, photographer, and activist to reflect on Shaw’s offerings and animate them through her words.
