Debussy: Sonata for Cello and Piano

David Requiro, a first prize winner of the 2008 Naumburg International Cello Award, is one of today's most promising young cellists. In addition to the Naumburg Award, Requiro’s numerous honors include first prize in the inaugural National Symphony Orchestra Young Soloists' Competition as well as the Irving M. Klein and Washington International String Competitions.  He also captured a top prize in the Gaspar Cassadó International Violoncello Competition in Hachioji, Japan, where he was recognized for giving the best performances of works by Gaspar Cassadó.

Actively involved with contemporary music, Requiro has collaborated with composers Krzysztof Penderecki and Bright Sheng. He premiered Tan Dun's Elegy: Snow in June (Concerto for Cello and Percussion) at the Aspen Music Festival with members of the Aspen Percussion Ensemble, and also gave the European premiere of Lou Harrison’s Suite for Cello and Orchestra in Italy.

Requiro has performed with chamber ensembles and orchestras throughout the United States and internationally, and has appeared at numerous distinguished music programs and festivals including the Emerson String Quartet Seminar, Music@Menlo, Perlman Chamber Music Program, and Giverny Chamber Music Festival. He is currently a member of the Jupiter Symphony Chamber Players in New York City.
