Catrin Finch, harp

Bach: Andante from Italian Concerto, BWV 971

Heralded as “one of classical music’s most exciting, prodigiously brilliant young stars” (Classic FM Magazine), Welsh harpist Catrin Finch has delighted audiences worldwide with her dynamic performance style. Anne Midgette of The New York Times wrote of Finch’s Carnegie Hall debut: “With one touch of the strings - the opening notes of the Bach Toccata and Fugue - she pulverized the stereotype of harpists as pretty, angelic strummers.”

Finch first appeared on the international music scene in 1999 as the winner of the Lily Laskine International Harp Competition in France, one of the premier harp competitions in the world.  She then went on to take first prize in the Young Concert Artists International Auditions in New York. Since then, she has performed extensively throughout the United States, the Middle East, Asia, and Europe, appearing with many of the world’s top orchestras including the Boston Pops, the New York Philharmonic, the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.

In 2000, Finch was appointed Royal Harpist to H.R.H. the Prince of Wales, an appointment she held until 2004.  Britain’s first Royal Harpist since 1873, she played regularly at the Royal Palaces, performing for royalty from around the world. She has recorded extensively in a range of styles and musical genres reflecting her diverse musical interests, from solo classical recitals and concertos to an eclectic cross-over mix and her own 14 piece band “CF47.”
