Gardens & Fountains of Islamic Spain
Tickets: $15 General Public; $12 Seniors; $5 Members; FREE Students
The gardens of al-Andalus were watered by an ingenious system of canals, aqueducts, and waterwheels, some of Roman origin. Scientific expertise in water management was reflected in the artistic appreciation for water as spectacle: it was exuberantly displayed in pools and fountains and even among the plantings themselves. Guest speaker: D. Fairchild Ruggles, University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, author of Islamic Gardens and Landscapes.
